One Land, One King—Epic Fantasy Tale

King Jirgar, a mighty and wise ruler chosen by the Earth itself, rides alongside his five knights to the plains of Urman to meet King Daraghas and his five knights. Daraghas, also chosen by the Earth, devoted his life to his kingship and has no intention of losing the battle to come: the last war of Kings for the One Land.

In an incredible fight to the death with a display of mental powers rarely seen before, the five Knights and the King of the One Land are at long last chosen; the longed sought promised peace is finally at hand for all to taste…or so they believed.

Before the victors can rest their bloody swords, the One Land King is taken to another plane of existence where he is forced to make a choice that will forever seal the destiny of the land, the people and his.

A new war begins, a secret war of influence, against the Fallen Angel himself no less, for the salvation of humanity.

The One Land King and his Knights, aided by the Angels of Heaven, must battle invisible Demons and a secret Dark Order in the heart of their cities and of their unaware subjects. All the denizens are indirectly forced into making a personal choice, oblivious to the fact that their decision will either favor the side of the King or of the Fallen.

The outcome of this battle is to be decided by Yan, an oddity born before his time, chosen by Heaven to be the scale on which the actions of men shall be weighted.

“This story tantalizes the imagination with its vivid rendering of a world not quite like ours. Escape into the pages and expect to emerge from them days after the fact. … This is a book that redefines the fantasy genre in a unique and compelling way, revisiting the classical dichotomy of good and evil but with a distinctiveness that could have only been Inspired.”
—Robert Baer, author of New York Times bestsellers See No Evil and Sleeping with the Devil

Knight Anaria by Tim Fricker

FANTASY TALE PROVES INTERESTING
By AMY NELSON Citizen Reviewer for The Bismarck Tribune
Title: “One Land, One King”
Author: Y.S. Hassan

Angels vs. demons, good vs. evil, heaven vs. hell; it is the age-old fight, written about in ages past and those yet to come.

“One Land, One King” by Y.S. Hassan takes this epic battle and immerses it in a world of fantasy; a world where knights and kings are one with their people and their lands.

The people in the “One Land” are connected to their rulers by a sort of psychic bond. Because all are ruled by and connected to the land, the rulers can sense their subjects, and the people feel their ruler’s presence at all times. This is a comforting presence when the ruler is kind and just.

The reader enters the story of the “One Land” in the midst of a battle to decide the one, true king. Rulers and knights of various lands have been fighting each other, the winner taking over the defeated king’s lands immediately in the hearts of his subjects.

There can only be one king and five knights, though, and the fight has finally come to one between the last two kings and their knights. As the battle wages on, the participants are comforted by the thought that when it is finished — whatever the outcome — peace will finally rule the land. However, as the true king plunges his sword into his opponent, he is whisked to a place where he is given a great gift, but also terrible knowledge of impending war.

A child has been born, and his choices will decide the fate of the world. As he grows, angels and demons alike will struggle to influence him and thus sway the fight in their favor.

It is the task of the one true king and his followers to protect their people and their land from the onslaught of the demon’s trickery. An oft-told tale, it’s true, but the author tells it well. The characters are well-written and likeable, with just enough background to give you insight into their choices. The reader is drawn right into the story, and fans of both fantasy and mythology will enjoy the elements of magic and and mythical characters liberally spread throughout the story.

“One Land, One King” is an engaging, well-written story, and I thoroughly recommend it to fans of both genres.

Gerbick rated it 4/5

Not read a fantasy book for years. Glad this was the one I did. Familiar themes of good v evil, but done in an engaging way which never got boring or too cliched.

Sambo rated it 5/5

Loved it! Great plot, great characters and masterfully orchestrated story. It is more than an epic tale, it is a call to Valor! I am impatient for M. Hassan's next book.

Gina Robichaud rated it 4/5

For 288 pages, the book was good.

Bookwatcher rated it 5/5

This book is divided in two moments. Book one, starting with two kings and 10 knights fight, and Book two, seventeen years after the winner became the only king of the land.

The book one was bloody and amazing! The fights were so well written and you will read it without stop. Before the final (and incredible) fight between the two kings there is a little time to breath, and with a flashback you will know about King Jirgar past. Reading that I was lost... I really was in love with that character. I warn all impatient readers that only at the end of the final fight everything will be explain, and a new mystery will be create: a strange newborn boy, that will be the mystery the second part of the book.

The book two was more "slow" even if there is no boring or useless scene there. Sorry if I'll offend some fantasy readers but I really love fantasy books that don't waste pages and pages talking about a damn mountain and all (each, one by one) trees there. I want a dynamic fantasy book, where the writer explain me what I need to know to understand the characters. Mr Hassan is my type of fantasy writer, and I never get bored. Plus, this second part of the book is full of secondary stories. Normal and common humans will be tempted by demons! Was so incredible, jump from one to another, and read this "independent" facts.

But, what I most appreciate reading the Book Two was learn about the knight Yanas. He will surprise you, and I guarantee that will be hard to decide who is the best character of this book... Yanas or the king? I'm still trying to decide!

About the theme of this book
Angels and demons... human souls is the main trophy... who will win? The good or the evil? The light or the darkness?

Ok, I know very well what you are thinking:

"Again? Boring... let me check another book and eat some popcorn ".

DON'T DO IT! YOU WILL LOST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. And eat the popcorn (I loooooooove popcorn!)

Please, I don't want to start the never ending discuss about religion. So, reading it without religion bias I thought this theme was perfect. Love the soul maturating thing, and the devil or good fight.
I don't want to ruin the fun of your reading so I'll stop here. The pleasure was all the mystery that surround the characters, and why there is this immense desire to fight for human souls. I enjoy it, and I hope you do it too.

I also find very creative the mental link between the king and the knight. At the beginning I thought a little oppressive the existence of such mental way to commands or "force" people do what they want... but don't despair, I was wrong. Was not oppressive, but wonderful!

My judgment is:
Great Imagination.
Good writing.
Surprising end (and so sweeeeeeeeeeeet! I love it!)
Amazing fantasy book.
I recommend it to all fantasy readers!

Well planned adventure story that captures the imagination. For me, it was off to a slow start, but quickly picked up and held my attention. Plot was well formulated and left me wanting more at the end. Characters were easy to relate to and were filled woth depth. Look forward to more from Mr. Hassan.

Loved it! Great epic tale, which I highly recommend reading. One Land One King is truly unique. The author creates a world of his own and yet one can find some similarities with ours. He successfully "remasterizes" many different myths that have been around for centuries while succeeding in bringing them with a different and new perspective, it is a fascinating feat. But the biggest achievement of this book is to bring to light some mental alchemy powers, which I firmly believe many of us have the ability to develop. And I don't even mention the never-ending action, the richness of the many characters, the magnificent descriptions, as well as the true moral perspiring from every single page... It's simple, reading Y.S.Hassan can change your own perception of life.
